The Journey

When you start upon your journey,
when your life on Earth begins.,
GOD gives us each a special sailboat,
a distant shore our journeys end.

We're told about the winds and currents,
We're warned about the rocks and storms.
We're shown our final destination,
and sailing tips in many forms.

Every morn we start a sailing,
toward that distant Heavenly shore.
We pull up anchor, hope for wind and
keep a wary watch for storms.

Some Sailors rush to start a moving,
and never check their course 'tis true.
Too hurried them to set the rudder.
Too proud even to compass use.

Others heeding ancient wisdom,
check the stars before the dawn.
Calculating every current,
certain their course is not wrong.

Check the compass and the weather.
Hoist the sail and anchor heave.
Set the rudder, close the hatches,
then at last ready to leave.

Days to weeks, and months to years
our sailors cross the mighty sea.
Some days clear and others dreary,
sailing toward that shore unseen.

The hasty mariners move quickly,
some far ahead no longer seen.
Thinking if they get their sooner,
a better spot on shore they'll glean.

Not watching for the hidden currents,
or guiding by the stars they go.
Rushing always in a hurry,
their boats tossed wildly to and fro.

The steady on their patient journey,
never veering from their course.
Check the sail and watch the weather,
sometimes better, sometimes worse.

Till at last they see the shoreline
gleaming like a golden plain.
They look for those that raced before them,
and call to those they know by name.

And when that coast, it finally beckons
the patient beach their boats at last.
They look around, the beach 'tis empty.
Where are those who sailed so fast?

Lost at sea? So many missing.
Blown off course or lead astray?
This beach belongs to those who listened
and set their course first thing each day.
